It is upon me.  And has been for a week now.  School, that is.  Classes and homework and papers and lectures and professors and buses and pencils and idiots and idiots on bikes and little sleep and typing and the Union and having class/work on Labor Day (today) when no other college or school or various free-standing building does.  But it’s all good – at least I don’t have Friday classes.

The schedule this year includes Media Ethics (prof from Harvard Divinity School; gonna be a great class with a lot of theory and discussion), Symbolic Logic (this one would’ve helped before I took the LSAT; it will suck), Advanced Expository Writing (crazy/goofy prof; chance to do a lot of good writing), The U.S. Congress (lectures have both snore and edge-of-your-seat potential), and Argumentative Writing (if you debate with me after this one, my reason, intellect, and sharp syntax will bury your pathetic statements in a seething pit of despair).  So, the lineup seems to be good.

Now, here is what I can tell you about my second-favorite band of all time, Hootie and the Blowfish (Simon and Garfunkel probably take the cake, but it’s honestly close): they are freaking awesome!  I’ve been a faithful follower of this band since I was about 12 years old (though they released their first album, Cracked Rear View, in 1994).  I was born in’84, so you do the math.  I’ve purchased all of their albums through the years, which is an extremely rare feat for me, and I’ve always believed in their message and respected their demeanor.  Not too many bands can say they give much back to the world, but these guys can – the hopeful meaning behind their lyrics and their service to country and community is pretty outstanding, and I don’t think many people know that.  Plus, there is nobody with a voice like Darius Rucker.

Naturally, when my sister told me they were playing in Military Park on Sunday, I couldn’t pass it up.  Especially since admission was free!  It was part of Rib America; the food was pricy, but awesome and incredibly worth the show that followed.  I went with the little (though he’s taller than me) bro, and that alone made the night worth it.  We ate some pulled pork and a half slab of ribs, then listened to Hootie and bought a couple CDs.  Here are some pictures from the show:

As you can tell, it was simply awesome.  One lifetime goal of seeing Hootie live: check.  I'd like to road trip it somewhere and see them again, but he's mostly on the west coast the rest of the year.  Oh, well.  Viva Hootie!

Oh, and be sure to listen to 103.7 FM at 6 pm (for the Bloomington folk) or 90.1 FM at 4 pm (for the Indy folk) on Sunday, September 11 to hear me read my growth hormone article on NPR.  For all you other folk around the state, find your local NPR station and tune into the Sound Medicine program.  Should turn out pretty well.

That's all for now.  Good luck to all you people with classes and all you real people with jobs.  I hope I get to be a real person some day in the very far future.  Peace out.
